Ex-San Lorenzo President Denounces 'Coup' After Club Leadership Change

Buenos Aires, Dec 23 (NA) — Former San Lorenzo President Marcelo Moretti spoke out after an extraordinary assembly defined a Transitional Board for the club and again denounced a 'coup d'état,' while assuring that the power vacuum will be nullified once the Justice rules on the nullity request he filed days ago. According to the Argentine News Agency, Moretti stated in an interview with Picado TV that the assembly 'is null' and affirmed that the ruling from the National Civil Court No. 51 could be released in the coming hours. 'We are very calm. We were democratically elected,' he emphasized. He also explained that the meeting that led to the power vacuum 'never formally began' and that the minutes were 'falsified and prepared by a small group of people.' 'The content was totally false. If the Justice rules in favor of Moretti again, the process could be annulled and the leader would return to his post until a final resolution.' 'I did nothing to leave, this is a coup d'état,' insisted Moretti, who also remarked that he is supported by the club's statute and that, if necessary, he will appeal to higher authorities. Meanwhile, the extraordinary assembly proceeded with the election of a Transitional Board and set early elections for May 30, 2026, in a climate of judicial uncertainty. 'We filed the protest last Thursday and this assembly will be void,' he expressed. In this sense, he was firm in emphasizing his intention to resume the mandate for which he was elected by the club's members: 'The idea is to return and complete the two years we have left in our term.'
